Developing Generous Hearts

New logoOur mission is to grow as disciples of Jesus and means embracing stewardship as a way of life.  Stewardship is simply our grateful response to God’s love, realizing it is He who loved us first. Our lives as good stewards grow as our hearts see that everything we have comes from Him and we respond in gratitude by giving Him our whole self.

This life-long journey of stewardship must also be built upon a foundation of gratitude with our personal response to share what we have with others—our time, talent and treasure—with generous, grateful and loving hearts.

Inherent in this is our need to give—to move from selfishness to selflessness.  We need to have an attitude of not “what do I have to give,” but “what do I want to give.”

We have been celebrating your faithful generosity as our capital campaign ended and we rejoiced in the generous bequest of a parish family. Generosity is contagious and as we have seen it grow, many wonderful things are happening.

Your generosity to our parish is a great example of how we all participate in growing God’s Kingdom.  Without your sharing of time, talent and resources, our parish would not be able to accomplish its mission or vision—to live the teachings of Christ celebrated in the Eucharist and sacraments, to support the ongoing formation of our spiritual lives and to serve the needs of our parish and local community and the bigger Church.

Have a Generosity Goal

Last year we introduced the idea of a giving guideline—generally accepted to be 10% of income to charity—5% to the church, 1% to the diocese and 4% to other charities.

Is 10% the right number?  I don’t know.  Maybe it’s 5%, 8% or 15%. The point is to see where you are and decide if this the right place for you.  It’s not about what I have to give but what do I want to give.

What do you want to give to accomplish God’s work here in our parish, our community and the world?
