Pope Names New Auxiliary Bishops of Milwaukee

WASHINGTON—Pope Francis has named Father Jeffrey
R. Haines and Father James T. Schuerman as auxiliary bishops of Milwaukee. Both
are priests of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Until now, Fr. Haines has served
as rector and pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, and Fr. Schuerman
has served as pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church.

The appointments were publicized in
Washington, January 25, by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to
the United States.

Jeffrey Haines was born October 6, 1958 in
Milwaukee. He holds a bachelor of arts degree from Marquette University, 1981,
and earned a master’s of divinity from the Saint Francis de Sales Seminary in
1985. He studied canon law at The Catholic University of America, 2002. He was
ordained a priest on May 17, 1985.

Assignments after ordination include:
parochial vicar at St. Nicholas Parish, Milwaukee, 1985-1987; St. Nicholas
Parish and Holy Redeemer Parish, 1987-1991; and St. Eugene Parish, Fox Point,
1991-1996. Pastor, Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, West Bend, 1996-2002;
2003-2011; temporary administrator, St. Patrick Parish, Whitewater, 2002-2003;
assisting priest, Immaculate Conception Parish and Saint Mary Parish, West
Bend, 2004-2011; rector and pastor, Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist,
Milwaukee, 2011-present.

James Schuerman was born April 5, 1957. He
pursued seminary studies at Saint Francis de Sales Seminary College. He earned a
bachelor’s degree from Saint Francis de Sales Seminary College in St. Francis, Wisconsin;
a master’s degree in theology from the University of Innsbruck, Austria, where
he also continued his seminary studies at the Collegium Canisianum, Austria. He
also holds a doctorate in ministry from the Catholic Theological Union, Chicago,
1996. He was ordained a priest on May 17, 1986.

Assignments after ordination include:
parochial vicar, St. Anthony Parish, Milwaukee, 1986-1992; Missionary, Sagrada
Familia Parish, Dominican Republic, 1992-1996; spiritual director, Saint
Francis de Sales Seminary, 1997-2010; pastor, St. Francis de Sales Church, Lake
Geneva, 2010-present.

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee comprises 4,758
square miles in the state of Wisconsin. It has a total population of 2,339,403 people
of which 568,448 or 24 percent are Catholic. Archbishop Jerome Listecki is the archbishop
of Milwaukee since 2009.
