Parish Welcomes Community to “Almost Free” Yard Sale
On October 15 our parish welcomed hundreds of local residents to our first “Almost Free Yard Sale.” In addition to being able to shop for mostly free items, more than 225 people were also treated to a hot breakfast and donated pastries.
The cafeteria was packed with men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes and accessories thanks to the generous response of parishioners to “Let It Go.” About 425 bags of items were donated!
“We were overwhelmed by the generous response of the parish in donating their gently used and never used clothing and other items,” says Marty Wiegers, co-chair of the event, which was sponsored by the Stewardship Committee. “We also had many volunteers to help prepare for the sale and assist on sale day.”
Volunteers spent two weeks sorting and arranging the items and providing parish hospitality on sale day. Special thanks to Leslie and Randy Duff who suggested and volunteered to provide the breakfast.
“The shoppers were appreciative and grateful for the clothing and accessories they received and for the breakfast,” says Brad Hill, co-chair. “The atmosphere was truly one of hospitality and service.
“I think those involved also learned a lot about giving…letting it go…so others could enjoy it. The looks on the faces of the grateful shoppers just added to the experience.
“This event was discipleship at work…generosity, inviting, welcoming and serving.”
